This magnum of red Volnay 2021 from Joseph Drouhin is a wine of great elegance, in line with the wines of Volnay, a magnificent village located south of Beaune, not far from Pommard. Aged for 16 months in oak barrels (20% new barrels), this Volnay reveals subtle aromas of violet, peony, blackcurrant, and raspberry. The wine has a velvety texture and the tannins are very fine, this Volnay "pinotes" and displays the characteristics of the great Pinot Noir wines of the Côte de Beaune, on this gravel, pebble, and white soil. Vanilla, candied fruits, and sweet spices blend perfectly with this framework of red fruits. The wine's natural acidity brings great freshness and longevity to the whole. This wine will age perfectly for 10 years in magnum format. It can be enjoyed with red meat or roasted poultry.
