This magnum of Beaune 1er cru Clos des Mouches 2021 red from Maison Joseph Drouhin is a rare bottle, the result of the magic of this 7ha terroir acquired in the 1920s by Maurice Drouhin (son of Joseph), who was convinced of the exceptional potential of the place. The Clos des Mouches (actually bees are quite present in this locality) is indeed the mythical wine of the Drouhin family, a 1st cru that competes every year with the Grands Crus of the Côte. Ideally located halfway up the slopes bordering the capital of Burgundy wines, not far from Pommard, it produces a red wine of great delicacy. This high-standing Pinot Noir opens with fine notes of cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, and blackberry. One quickly perceives all the aromatic complexity, which then unfolds on notes of licorice, precious wood, tobacco, humus, all framed by silky tannins. Everything is in harmony and balance here. A wine of very high level that easily rivals the best Corton Grand Cru. Aging potential of 20 years.
