Domaine La Soufrandière - Bret Brothers

Domaine La Soufrandière - Bret Brothers

Vinzelles is a little-known but historic vineyard in Southern Burgundy. Vines have been found there since the Middle Ages. This perfectly exposed hillside is home to the estate la Soufrandière, led expertly by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret. The two brothers represent the third generation. The family's winemaking history began in 1948 with their grandfather Jules Bret - a medical professor - who acquired a hectare of vines in the legendary "les Quarts" climat in Vinzelles. Following in their father Jean-Paul's footsteps, the two brothers started off strong in 2000, becoming certified in biodynamics (demeter) as early as 2006. They invested human resources to expand the estate to 12 hectares today, complemented by a high-quality wine merchant business "bret brothers." The Bret brothers are always on the move, constantly experimenting, in the vineyard (high trellising, soil work, cover crops, seed sowing...) and in the cellar where wines with almost no added sulphur (zen cuvée) blend beautifully with more traditional versions. A true intellectual ferment, wines with a lot of personality, and above all, never a dull moment when tasting the wines of Jean-Phi and Jean-Gui!
