Domaine Matthieu Barret

Domaine Matthieu Barret

Mathieu Barret embodies the renewal of Cornas wines by being the emblem of this young generation of winemakers passionate about the terroirs of Cornas, a unique place in the Rhône Valley. A mythical terroir just like the evocation of some legendary winemakers (Alain Voge, Thierry Allemand, Clape...). Established since 1998, Mathieu Barret operates 20 hectares of vineyards ideally planted on terraces exposed to the rising sun. His Cornas wines are labeled under the name "Domaine du Coulet."

His ambition has remained the same since then, namely to produce terroir wines on well-identified climates by adapting to the typical soil of Cornas, made of decomposed granite called "gore." His vineyard work is carried out in biodynamics and the grapes are destemmed, as Mathieu aims to give his wines a digestible, fresh, and elegant profile.

Since 2017, he has banned oak barrels, now using stainless steel, concrete, and ceramic, in a constant search for aromatic freshness in the wines. Mathieu Barret's wines are sapid, flavorful, and sincere, reflecting their creator. Here, no harsh tannins or straight-lined structure, forget the stereotypical image of Cornas, you are at the opposite end!
