In the Domaine Sextant, all the grapes come from vines cultivated without herbicides or synthetic products, which requires a lot of work from Julien Altabert and his winemakers who supply the grapes!
The harvest that arrives in the winery is the result of many efforts.
Its natural balance allows me to work in the cellar with great serenity and confidence.
All the wines are vinified and aged without any oenological products (no sulfites) with very little intervention.
We're not trying to make great wines, but true, honest wines with the best drinkability possible.
Wine is a drink of conviviality, friendship, and celebration!
Julien Altaber grew up in southern Burgundy. He fell in love with Auvergne where he spent all his family vacations behind the cows or on tractors.
At the end of middle school, only one possible job: FARMER! But peasant farming is tough.
Living in the heart of Mâconnais, it was natural for him to move towards viticulture.
At the age of 16, his first internship, first winemaking: he loved it!
Harvest, fermentation, wine, Julien Altabert had just discovered an exciting environment.
After some internships and jobs in different domains of Mâconnais and Beaujolais, he continued his training in 2000 in a major Beaune trading house.
He spent two years there and then sought to return to a small family estate, in organic farming.
He arrived for the 2002 harvest in Saint-Aubin at Dominique DERAIN's. He discovered the peasant spirit of his origins.
Passionate, hardworking people who love and know their trade. The complicity is immediate. He came to discover organic farming and also discovered biodynamics and natural wines...! Involved in all areas: vineyards, cellar, commerce...
