The Magnien family is one of the oldest winemaking families in Burgundy and in particular in Côte de Nuits thanks to the Domaine Henri Magnien, a family estate that took root in Gevrey Chambertin in the 1600s.
No less than twelve generations have exploited here a magnificent plot made largely of old vines on Gevrey-Chambertin and Corton. The estate as it exists today was set up by Henri Magnien in 1987, and nowadays operated by Charles Magnien. The vineyard covers 6 hectares of old vines (massal selection of the family) which Charles takes care of brilliantly. The culture is reasoned and the vinification is rather traditional. Charles invested in the cellar to further increase the quality of the wines. A new winery was opened in 2018. The wines have a lot of charm, suppleness and elegance, with a classic use of the new barrel and a moderate extraction. A sincere and elegant expression of the quintessence of Pinot Noir!
