Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey brought a renewed energy to Maranges when they settled there in 1998. Starting with a few hectares of vineyards in Sampigny, they established the Domaine des Rouges-queues, allowing them to experiment and quickly transition to organic and biodynamic viticulture. As a harmonious couple, they make deliberate choices in every decision. The old vines are meticulously cared for like a garden, pruned in a respectful cordon style to preserve the sap flow.
In the cellar, their approach is intentionally hands-off, using whole bunches for fermentation without added sulfur for both reds and whites, with the whites being pressed whole before aging for 12 months in barrels. The wines are remarkably fresh and pure in aroma, with the reds showcasing flavors of fresh red fruits like raspberry and red currant, while the whites are luscious, with subtle oxidative notes. This great revival has inspired many winemakers in Maranges!
