Domaine Trapet

Domaine Trapet

The first vineyard acquisition by the Trapet family - originally from Chambolle-Musigny - in Gevrey, dates back to 1859. The Domaine Trapet has seen a steady progression throughout the twentieth century, positioning it today among the best in the Côte de Nuits. With 15 hectares, of which 13.5 are planted with pinot noir using biodynamic methods since 1995, this renowned property reached new heights when Jean-Louis Trapet married Andrée Grayer, also an heiress of a domain in Riquewihr (Alsace). Jean-Louis decided to take the path of gentleness and respect for the vine in order to achieve the highest level of expression of his terroirs. Jean-Louis and Andrée are now supported by their children Pierre and Louis.
From budding to harvest, the grapes are guided but never forced, as evidenced by the use of biodynamics. Pragmatic in the face of climate change, the family has been opting for whole cluster vinification since 2003. Another adaptation is the use of paisseaux (the Burgundy term for stakes) on the grand crus and premier crus... a monumental work in service of grapes better suited to high temperatures.
Constant self-reflection and a lot of vineyard work are necessary to welcome into the cellar grapes in perfect health condition, as well as maturity, a prerequisite to achieve the level of excellence carried by the Trapet family for many generations. The magnums of wines from Domaine Trapet presented on this site are directly from the estate.
