Domaine Matassa

Domaine Matassa

One of the most original and atypical estates in the South of France, the Domaine Matassa both for its history and its wines. Matasse was founded by Tom Lubbe and his wife Nathalie, a New Zealander. Having cut his teeth in South Africa at the Welgemeend estate, it was in the late 90s and early 2000s that he did an internship at Gerard Gauby and moved to Calce in 2001. The estate is now more than 15 hectares on small plots of old vines where Tom produces delicate wines, biodynamic, without chemical inputs. He likes to harvest early to keep alcohol levels low and thus produce wines with a nice freshness and great intensity. Unlike its neighbors with firm tannins with a lot of substance, Tom's wines are very delicate, infusions of Grenache, Carignan ... on a potpourri of rose, peony and sweet spices, framed by a basket of tangy red fruits. The tannins are of an insolent delicacy and one could drink them in abundance so the wines are juicy, delicate and thirst-quenching.
