The Domaine de l'Hortus was born in the 1970s thanks to the encounter of a man with a place: that of Jean Orliac, passionate about climbing, with the cliffs of the Hortus and Pic Saint Loup, north of Montpellier. A graduate in agronomy, he saw an incredible potential in these scree cones and steep valleys.
With limited resources, he then embarked on planting 4 hectares of vineyards... a long and arduous journey, as Mr. Orliac only released his first vintage 15 years later, in 1990. A huge success followed, and the estate now covers 70 hectares contributing to the reputation of the Pic Saint Loup appellation. This unique terroir produces colorful, refined, and delicate wines, with silky tannins and an aromatic profile faithful to its birthplace, ranging from eucalyptus, mint, and rosemary to peppery notes. The wines are very drinkable and display a certain balance. A very safe bet!
