Alsace is a rather unique region in its winemaking organization compared to other French regions. Here, it is primarily the grape variety that takes center stage. You will therefore be able to choose between Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, or Pinot Blanc. You can also choose wines with very different levels of residual sugars ranging from very dry wines to true syrupy nectar noble late harvest selections.
This focus on single varietal wines has not always been a guarantee of quality. And for the past decade, Alsace has once again highlighted its terroirs. It is actually rich in 51 grand crus that can produce wines of great finesse and elegance. This is notably thanks to the determination and persistence of Marcel Deiss, who has long advocated for the primacy of terroirs over grape varieties and extolled the virtues of field blends (planting several different grape varieties in the same plot, which are then vinified together). This has led Alsace winemakers to once again strive through their work to showcase their beautiful terroirs.
In addition to the undeniable qualities of the great Alsatian white wines, it must be recognized that a magnum of Alsace is a magnificent and impressive object due to its height. Giving a magnum of Alsace is sure to attract attention and make a lasting impression!
