Magnum Vougeot 1ᵉʳ Cru Le Clos Blanc 2022 – Domaine de la Vougeraie
The white exception of the Côte de Nuits
Planted since 1110 by the monks of Cîteaux, Le Clos Blanc embodies the viticultural history of Burgundy. This unique 1st white cru, in monopoly, thrives in the heart of a special terroir: 3.05 hectares of pure limestone, nicknamed "white earth," adjacent to the prestigious Clos de Vougeot. On this rare plot, Domaine de la Vougeraie passionately cultivates 95% chardonnay, complemented by pinot gris (4%) and pinot blanc (1%), in certified biodynamic farming for over two decades.
The harvest took place manually on September 3, 5, and 6, 2022. The whole clusters were gently pressed, then the wine was aged for 16 months in oak barrels (20% new), followed by 2 months of refining in stainless steel tanks. Extreme care for a rare great white: only 938 magnums were bottled.
The nose opens with intense notes of white flowers, ripe yellow fruits, candied citrus, with a subtle touch of noble wood and hazelnut. The palate seduces with its ample texture, finely integrated richness, and a chalky minerality that extends the finish with brilliance. The whole is balanced, of great precision, and offers aging potential of 10 to 15 years.
Best served chilled (11–12 °C), after decanting for 30 to 45 minutes in its youth. Perfect with roasted turbot, poultry in cream and truffle sauce, or aged Comté cheese.
